Pöyry Environment has been awarded with the contract for phase 1 of the project "Protection of Lake Victoria" in the area of Kampala, Uganda. The project includes the detailed design, preparation of Tender documents, bidding/contracting, supervision of construction and operation of the two new Waste Water Treatment Plants in the first 5 years as well as accompanying measures. The overall objective of the consultancy service to be rendered is the reduction of discharge of untreated wastewater into the Lake Victoria in the Kampala area (inner Murchison Bay) through the construction of two modern biological Waste Water Treatment Plants with Capacities of 45,000m³/day and 8,000m³/day including sludge digestion and electricity generation from biogas as well as the extension of the existing inadequate sewer system of Kampala. Thereby it intends to safeguard the sustainable protection of the ecological balance of Lake Victoria which serves as resource for the supply of Kampala with potable water. |
